Employee Scholarship Fund recipients

The Eau Claire County Employee Scholarship Fund awarded its twenty-fifth annual scholarships to sixteen students. The Scholarship Program is open to children of Eau Claire County employees who are currently high school seniors or already in college or technical school. The 2017-2018 $600 scholarship recipients received their awards during the May 16, 2017 county board meeting.

The sixteen recipients of this year's $600.00 scholarships are:

Alex Braaten, daughter of Angie Braaten, Diversion Coordinator in the Eau Claire County District Attorney’s Office, was a 2016 graduate of Memorial High School and is currently studying Political Science and Legal Studies at UW-Madison

Cody Byran, son of Jessica Bryan, Victim Witness Coordinator in the Eau Claire County District Attorney’s Office, was a 2015 graduate of Menomonie High School and is currently studying Criminal Justice at UW-Stout.

Hannah Dorn, daughter of Shane Jenson, Correctional Officer with the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office, will graduate from Eau Claire North High School this spring and will attend St. Norbert College in the fall to study Pre-Veterinary and/or Biochemistry.

Elliot Draxler, son of Frank Draxler, Director of Purchasing, was a 2016 graduate of Memorial High School and is currently attending UWEC with intentions of transferring to UWM to pursue the Environmental Engineering Program.

Jesse Kastel, son of Colleen Kastel, Jail Sergeant with the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office. , will graduate from Osseo-Fairchild High School this spring and will attend UW-Platteville in the fall.

Joseph Kastel, son of Colleen Kastel, Jail Sergeant with the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office, will graduate from Osseo-Fairchild this spring and will attend UW-Stevens Point with interests in Law Enforcement and Natural Resources.

Maechaela Kolpien, daughter of Curtis Kolpien, Mechanic with the Eau Claire County Highway Department, is a 2015 graduate from Fall Creek High School and is studying Exercise and Sports Science at UW-La Crosse with aspirations of becoming a Physical Therapist.

Brandon Lewis, son of Mark Lewis, Corrections Officer with the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office, is a 2016 graduate of Regis High School and is studying business at UW-Eau Claire.

Matthew Lyons, son of Glenda Lyons, Eau Claire County Treasurer, will graduate from Augusta High School this spring and will attend UW-Platteville with aspirations of being a Mechanical Engineer.

Allison Otto, daughter of Kevin Otto, Jail Sergeant with the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office, will graduate from Memorial High School this spring and will attend CVTC to study Nursing or possibly Nurse Practitioner.

Alex Pederson, son of Heidi Pederson, Records Management Coordinator with the Eau Claire
County Information Systems Office, will graduate from Chippewa Falls High School in the spring
and will study Computer Science / Software Engineering at UW-Eau Claire in the fall.

Benjamin Sokup, son of Michael Sokup, Social Worker with the Department of Human Services,
will graduate from Regis High School this spring and will study Business with an interest in Sports
Management at the University of Sioux Falls, SD in the fall.

Kyle Waletzki, son of Jody Waletzki, Social Worker with the Department of Human Services is a
2016 Memorial High School graduate and is studying Integrated Elementary and Special Education
at the University of MN-Duluth.

Sara Wickman, daughter of Steven Wickman, Deputy Sheriff in the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s
Office, is a 2016 Memorial High School graduate and is currently enrolled at CVTC with aspirations
of becoming a Nurse.

Jacqueline Xiong, daughter of Michael Xiong, Social Work Case Manager with the Department of
Human Services, is a 2015 Memorial High School graduate and is currently studying at UWMadison with aspirations of becoming a Pharmacist.

Hannah Zehms, daughter of Keith Zehms, Eau Claire County Corporation Counsel, is a 2015
Memorial High School graduate and is currently double majoring in Sociology and Heritage and
Museum Studies at Concordia College in Morehead, MN.
